General anaesthesia
A general anaesthetic renders the patient unconscious and thus also devoid of all sensation, including pain. A larynx mask is placed over the mouth to ensure free airwaves and safe breathing.
Today’s modern anaesthetic methods are well-tolerated and allow for a quick awakening, meaning that even in cases requiring general anaesthesia, many operations can be performed on an outpatient basis. As in all anaesthetic methods, all relevant body functions such as heart activity, blood pressure and oxygen intake, are continuously observed.
