Local anaesthesia

This is the recommended method in smaller operations on superficial parts of the body, for example when removing skin tumours or during a hair transplant. A certain amount of local anaesthetic is injected in the relevant area in order to block any sensation of pain in this specific region. An additional tranquilliser can also be administered if deemed necessary.

Special types of local anaesthesia include block anaesthesia, epidural anaesthesia and tumescent anaesthesia in which pain relief is injected at targeted points, allowing even greater parts of the body to be affected; a common method in liposuction and vein surgery, for example.
