Fat transfer – Lipofilling
Fat transfer (or lipofilling) is used to improve body proportions, even out defects that may have resulted from previous operations, treat wrinkles, enlarge lips, build cheeks, enlarge buttocks and calves, and even improve the appearance of cellulite and scars. The technique of tunnel lipofilling combines well with liposuction and affords the added advantage of using the body’s own material, thereby eliminating the risk of an allergy or foreign body reaction. The same benefit applies to lipofilling and lipotransfer (as advocated by Fournier), lipostructure (by Coleman), liporecycling (by Sattler) or liposhifting (by Blugerman).
Fat transfer is done most easily and to best-looking effect, using so-called tumescent local anaesthesia (as with liposuction) and, ultimately, using centrifuge. The fat cells are then transferred with special cannulae and injected into the desired body part(s).
