Hair removal – Epilation

Depending on its location and progression, excessive natural or hereditary hairiness (a.k. a. hypertrichosis) can be perceived as cosmetically undesirable in both men and women. In certain cases (such as hirsutism) excess hairiness is caused by a hormonal imbalance, a tumour, or it appears after taking certain medications. It is therefore important to carry out a diagnosis to establish the cause of any excess hairiness before the hair removal procedure. In most, purely cosmetic cases, the affected are helped by shaving, tweezer- or wax epilation. Currently on trend are methods of galvanised electrolysis whereby the root is basically destroyed.

Laser epilation and light epilation with systems such as epilight and photoderm are also increasingly used. Generally, the lighter the skin and the darker the hair, the more successful the epilation. After an epilation test, the desired hair removal is achieved in four to seven weeks, depending on the type of laser
